I am a mixed media illustrator interested in colour, form, and visual rhythm. I am especially interested in the idea of spontaneous creation and how this influences my work.
I originally come from Korea, and it’s been four years since I’ve come to live in London. Having grown up in different countries, I am interested in exploring cultural identities and travelling – I was recently able to develop some work on these ideas through my ‘Seoul’ project. I often use pen and ink as my medium, and then develop initial sketches through processes such as screenprinting. Previously, I preferred to work in black and white but I have come to increasingly enjoy involving colour to my line drawings. For my following projects, I’d like to experiment by drawing or printing illustrations on 3D surfaces and objects, adding more of a theatrical feeling to my work.
My current work uses a range of mediums that include print, digital and textile outcomes. I create pieces that have figurative as well as abstract elements and I am interested in exploring the tensions and interactions between these two. My influences come from a wide range of sources from designers and artists I see in galleries, magazines and books. I have also being working on illustrations for clients outside of university.
I like to work with a variety of mediums; including photography, watercolour, screen printing, pencil, letterpress and collage. I like to combine hand illustrations with digital aspects of design, exploring advantages of both mediums, layering and creating textural outcomes, which has always been of interest to me.
Portraits, symbols, metaphors and colours have always been a source of inspiration for me. I prefer working with markers and paint of all sorts to create block, crisp and striking colours for my illustrations. My work often reflects either my emotional state at the time or my political and social views.
My favourite artists are Caza (Philippe Cazaumayou), Monica Cook, M.C. Escher and other artists that create surreal, vibrant, compelling and bizarre pieces.

I have exhibited two projects at the Work in Progress Show, they are narrative based explorations of theme’s personal to my practice. The outcomes are still very much a work in progress as is the exploration of themes such as mental disorders and the psychological self assessment of the self.
